Green craft project: Vintage vase out of old plastic bottle. Step-by-step tutorial
What didn’t we try to make from plastic bottles?
Here is a fresh idea for the school eco-friendly craft project, one more example of crafts made from recycled materials for kids and adults:

You can make unique battered vintage vases out of just nothing
You will need:
- a used pop bottle,
- two different acryl paint colors,
- a scissors,
- freshly boiled water,
- one pair of pliers (optional).
Step 1.

Cut off the top of the bottle. If the plastic is thin, use scissors, if it's thick, use a knife. The cut doesn't have to be perfect and straight, use sandpaper to round it if necessary
Step 2.

Next, shape the bottle by pouring boiling water in it. To do it, place the bottle in the sink and prepare two instruments (in this case two pairs of pliers, two forks would also work) to shape the vase. Holding the bottle at the top with one pair of pliers, carefully pour in the boiling water, letting the bottle soften enough to be able to change it's shape. Using the second pair of pliers add dents, pressing the bottle to the bottom at the same time. Make sure that the bottom is straight, and the bottle can stand up without falling. Watch out for the top- it might become to thin or tilt while you're pouring in the boiling water. When the water is in the vase, you can still fix it. If possible, it's better to try this process on an analogous bottle first. Now, we have a battered bottle, and we got past the hardest part of making the battered vintage vases.
Step 3.

Use dark colored paint to paint the bottle, including all the dents and the folds. For the colour to cover the whole surface and to spread evenly, apply the paint on the surface 2-3 times.
Step 4.

Using a dry brush, apply golden paint on the vase. To do this, put a little bit of paint on a dry brush and make a couple of strokes on a piece of paper or newspaper, until there is almost no paint left. Now, gently brush the brush along the bottle as if trying to get rid of the paint. The gold on the folds will make the vase look more fancy, and no one is going to guess that the vase was originally made from a plastic bottle.
Step 5.

Using the gold paint, draw little lines in form of hieroglyphs, around the vase.
Step 6.

The last step is to paint the opening golden.
We’re done!
This kind of vase is made for dry and fake flowers, so if you want to keep live flowers/plants there, it’s very advisable to add a coat of varnish on top of the paint.
